Amazing, isn’t it? How something tragic has to trigger the hearts and emotions of supporters. How artists never truly understand the meaning of art until one who does gets hurt. I should have started this project when I started in dA.
deviantART is a place where artists come together to support each other in every aspect of the art in all of our lives. It’s not about how many pageviews you get or how many comments you get. It’s not about how popular you are or how much others notice you. Sure, getting a comment and hitting a marker for pageviews is an amazing feeling, but you’ve also had to learn something to get there. dA is about the true arts in life. About supporting and loving each other. It’s about showing your peers and those who have similar interests how to advance their work. This place is built on a dream to explore art styles and broaden the creativity in our world which has become so strict on washing away the nonsense.
Losing Jark has affected a lot of people. I didn’t even know who he was until someone started discussing his current situation. This made me think of something. We as people, who really have no control over what happens with the staff when it comes to legal matters, can always strive to do what the founders themselves wanted in the beginning. This is why I make my new project proposal to you. I am not sure if anyone has started a project similar to this or not, but if they have, then I will be glad to join that one. This is what I propose:
-------------------------------------------
A while ago, I would take time during lunch break at school to just go to dA’s homepage and click one of the 5 on the front page under “Recent Deviations”. Sometimes I would come across a deviant who was fairly new with not more than 100 pageviews. Other times, I would see a deviant who was well-known and well-supported for their art. I see a very large imbalance between the two in this community.
We've decided to call this project PIF. For those of you who have seen "Pay It Forward", you may know how this fits with the project. I have not seen it personally, but ~Xialexi suggested the name and I think it suits it well. ( Plus, it's fun to say. >> )
Here’s how it works. Whether you are an old member or a new, known or unknown, professional or practicing, anyone can and should participate. The goal of the project is for all of the artists on deviantART to search and find other artists. I have heard so many times, “I do not think this person even knows that I exist.” Well, that needs to change. We are a community of people with a common interest. Even if you are a photographer and someone else is a graphic designer, you are both artists. We are all artists in our own sense whether we create art in a visual, verbal, or audible sense or only in our thoughts. I have created this project to help this community grow in its love for one another.
There are guidelines to this project…If you wish to join and truly show your love and support for all of those who are members of this vast community.
These are the guidelines that we suggest for you to follow.
Guideline 1: Spend at least 5 minutes every day that you visit deviantART and browse through random deviations.
Guideline 2: Comment on the deviation or the deviant’s page with no less than 10 words in the comment.
Guideline 3: Try to find deviants who aren’t well known and don’t receive much support.
Guideline 4: Get everyone you know involved. The more we have involved, the better the results.
Guideline 5: Do this if you feel the need to let others know that when it comes to art, we are all big contributors. Do it if you believe that we as artists can support each other and teach one another how to advance our skills and become both better artists and better people.
I am not doing this to get attention. I am not doing this to become popular. I am doing this because I know how others feel when new artists see this large gathering of people and feel that not a single person notices their existence. I know how good it feels to receive a comment from someone you don’t know telling you that they like your work. I know what it’s like to try and talk to someone who has far more supporters than I do and feel like a flea compared to the rest of them. I only hope that everyone in the community will go out and encourage, support, and help each other to learn and stay together as a whole in a community built just for that.. Don’t let anyone think that we do not see them. Don’t let anyone think that this place is too big for them and that they will never be noticed. Go out and find them. Go out and show them that we’re here for them. We’re here to help them each and every step of the way.
Sincerely yours,
Jade, teh Ring Leader
